This is a new one! We’ve written before here on bingolines of the amazing benefits of bingo, both in terms of educating kiddies and keeping the elderly busy! But, believe it or not, it seems the police are now also using our favourite game to combat crime.
Breightmet Police have taken the bold step joining forces with their local Mecca Bingo hall in a bid to raise awareness of distraction robberies in the area. The last year has seen 23 incidents reported in their area, which have targeted the elderly.
These aren’t violent crimes, but prey on the trusting nature of the elderly. Often someone will find a way to enter a home (using a cover of being from the Gas Board or some other such “official”) and using the opportunity to steal possessions of value.
The Breightmet Police & Mecca Bingo Event
The games kicked off at 9:30pm and in order to ensure the extra attention of the players – and as proof of the community support – local business put up the prizes. The police offered useful advice on how to detect a con-man and gave out personal attack alarms to people taking part.
Mecca Bingo is second to none when it comes to supporting worthy events both locally and nationally. And for that – We love Mecca Bingo!
